Trust the Light....Not Your Own Plans

This blog explores the importance of trusting God rather than placing faith in our own long-term plans and worldly ambitions. Through conversations with trusted friends and mentors, I was reminded that our true purpose is to become present, allow the light of God into our lives, and let Him guide our path one step at a time. The story of manna in the wilderness serves as a powerful reminder that God provides what we need when we need it. When we put the material world first, it becomes our god. Real peace, clarity, and direction come only through faith, trust, and alignment with God’s light.

Modern society teaches men that life is about building the perfect plan.

Set your five-year goals.
Map out your future.
Chase money.
Build status.
Control every outcome.

But the older I get, the more I realize that this mindset often pulls us away from God instead of toward Him.

This past week, I spoke with an old friend and mentor of mine. During our conversation, he reminded me of something powerful: my real job in life is not to force my own grand vision onto the future. My job is to go inward, become present, and allow the light of God to enter me.

When I do this, my relationship with everything changes.

My fears are silenced.
My thoughts change.
My reactions change.
Even my path changes.

When we become still and present before God, the next step becomes clear. Not the entire journey — just the next step. And that is enough.

Too many men today are trying to play god over their own lives. They place their faith in plans, money, success, politics, careers, or material security. But when we place the material world first, the world itself becomes our god.

Scripture warns us about this constantly.

We are not called to worship comfort, wealth, or worldly success. We are called to seek God first.

The truth is, most of us want certainty. We want guarantees. We want to know exactly how everything will work out before we move forward. But faith does not work that way.

Another close friend of mine — a man I’ve known for over 25 years — reminded me of the biblical story of manna in the wilderness. God fed His people daily, but they were not allowed to store it up out of fear and anxiety for the future. They received what they needed when they needed it.

That story carries a message most modern people completely miss.

God was teaching dependence.

Trust.

Faith.

The people could not rely on their own hoarding or control. They had to trust that God would provide again tomorrow.

How many of us live the opposite way?

We cling to control.
We obsess over future outcomes.
We chase security while our spiritual lives decay.

But Christ Himself said:

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Bread sustains the body.
But the light of God sustains the soul.

Without that light, a man can gain the whole world and still feel empty inside.

I believe many men today are spiritually starving because they have been taught to worship the external world while neglecting the inner one. They have plans for careers, finances, and possessions — but no relationship with God.

And without God, even success becomes hollow. We end up chasing the world and still feel the emptiness.

I’m beginning to understand that life is less about constructing a perfect road map and more about aligning ourselves with God so that He can guide us step by step.

That requires humility.

It requires silence.

It requires presence.

And it requires trust.

Not trust in ourselves.
Not trust in the system.
Not trust in money.

Trust in the Lord.

The more we allow His light into our hearts, the clearer the path becomes.

Not because we suddenly control the future — but because we no longer need to.

God already does.
